Pigmentation Removal

What is pigmentation?

There are many types of pigmentation that can present in the skin. The most common being:

  • Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation or PIH: -The darkened spots that form after a pimple or a cut. This is due to the skins natural response to produce melanin as a defence mechanism. PIH is usually temporary, although may take some weeks or even months to fade completely.

  • Melasma or Chloasma : aka the mask of pregnancy. This type of pigmentation usually presents during pregnancy and can be difficult to treat. If treated inappropriately, it could lead to further damage and darkening.

  • Hormonal Pigmentation - this includes changes to pigmentation on the body such as the intimate areas and underarms

  • Sun Damage or Photo Damage: This is usually a progressive form of pigmentation that develops in areas that are highly exposed to the sun, such us the upper cheek area and is usually quite noticeable on the décolletage area

What treatments are there for pigmentation?

Laser Pigmentation Removal

Our Cosjet Hero Q-Switch Nd:YAG Laser is our go-to for a lot of our pigmentation issues. It has 3 different wavelengths and modes for us to selectively utilise for every clients pigmentation issues ranging from melanoma, freckles, PIH, and sun damage.

  • 1064nm Laser targets dermal pigmentation including melasma, Nevus of Ota and derma PIH. This wavelength allows heat to encourage cell turnover and raise imbedded pigmentation, resulting in lightening over time.

  • 532nm Laser targets epidermal pigmentation such us freckles, sun damage and epidermal PIH. This wavelength heats and destroys the pigmented lesion, leading to light crusting and flaking of the pigmented lesion.

  • Genesis Laser targets the overall complexion of the skin and lightens the overall skin tone.

The Green Sea Peel is also a common treatment to help lighten pigmented lesions. The Green sea Peel is an all natural peeling solution derived from marine agents. It's a safe alternative to a chemical peel, although it's results prove to be successful at removing built up pigmentation and PIH especially on the epidermis. A course of treatments is recommended for best results although significant lightening of epidermal pigmented lesions will be addressed at every session.

Microneedling is another modality we use in clinic to target uneven skin-tone. This works by accelerating cell turnover to shift damaged cells to the outer layer, helping to lighten and fade pigmentation over time.

Mesotherapy is another successful modality that allows selective skin lightening serums and peels to absorb through the skin via the micro-channels creating during the needling process.

The method of treatments that we choose for you are specifically selected for your skin type and the severity of the pigmentation you present with.
